Under the direction of the Executive Director for Critical Care Services and in collaboration with the Pulmonary Medicine Medical Director, the Pulmonary Medicine Manager has 24-hour accountability for planning, coordination and managing operations and activities of the Respiratory Dept and Outpatient PFT Lab.

The Manager is expected to be highly autonomous, strategic and able to manage, delegate and prioritize.

Management of staff includes work allocation, training, evaluations, problem resolution.

The Manager will motivate staff to achieve goals and objectives.

1.

Professional Performance Standards

Ensures that all team member annual CAS evaluations are completed by the designated time frames.

Maintains the tracking and updates the CAS tracking form on the shared drive.

Ensures that all team members understand the scoring process.

Ensures that all licensure and CPR is appropriately tracked and submitted accordingly.

Participates in interviewing process, identifies qualified candidates and hires or terminates according to guidelines and under the supervision of the Director.

Monitors and evaluates orientation guidelines.

Completes orientation training, schedules and programs.

Updates and maintains personnel binders on an annual basis.
f.

Engages staff in opportunities for continued learning.

Maintain continuing education opportunities in order to develop best practices within the scope of Respiratory Care.

Works with the Resource Tech to fine tune work flows for Sleep and Neurosciences.
g.

Conducts consistent staff meetings with ample time for staff participation.

Responsible for department staff meetings to include correct membership, agenda sent out prior to meeting, develop annual meeting schedule, and provides online meeting minutes.

Daily assesses that procedures, services and environment conditions meet guidelines.

Completes Joint Commission inspection rounds and education to staff.

Assures staff complete daily equipment checks.

Maintain and modify as necessary the change of shift report in order to maintain patient safety and smooth work flow processes.

Orients, trains, supervises and assigns work to staff either directly or through supervisors.

Develop equipment competencies for all staff to attain in order to function as a competent Respiratory Care Practitioner within the scope of practice for Respiratory Care at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
c.

Works with the supervisor to ensure accurate completion of all payroll functions within specified time frame’s.

Assures Kronos compliance with staff audits and reviews trends.

Assures meal/ breaks as required by law.

Monitors payroll compliance.

Prepares work schedules and maintains adequate and effective staffing levels.

Evaluates Truven metrics to ensure productivity meets specified targets, adjusts the staffing levels accordingly.
d.

Works with the supervisor to ensure accurate completion of all payroll functions within specified time frame’s.

Assures Kronos compliance with staff audits and reviews trends.

Develop and or assist in the development of best practice protocols to support a better care model for patients on the Respiratory Care, Sleep Lab or Neuroscience service.

Be directly involved with an OE project to improve process, satisfaction or reduce cost.
g.

Makes recommendations as to planning, organizing, directing and controlling the department.

Evaluates clinical performance of supervisors.
h.

Researches current industry trends.

Assist with making recommendations and participates in preparation of initial phase of capital and operating budgets during budget process and time frames.

Monitors and reconciles financial statements with test or treatment statistics on a monthly basis.

4.

Adheres to accepted standards, policies, and procedures adopted by the profession(s) and regulated by law.

Responsible for clinical compliance with Director.

Adheres to code of ethics and works within professional scope of practice.

Maintain the “Registry” credential for Respiratory care.

Administers an effective departmental organization to ensure high quality standards and services.
a.

Validates credentials necessary for those in licensed, certified or registered positions.

Monitor staff credentials in accordance with hospital patient care requirements and the State of New Hampshire Board of Respiratory Care.

Ensures that all team members maintain credentials according to American Sleep Medicine guidelines.
b.

Maintain CAP accreditation for the blood gas laboratory
c.

Maintain a safe clinical blood gas laboratory with the guidelines of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Maintain a safe sleep laboratory environment, assuring team member/patient safety along with patient comfort.

Develop and administer competencies to the Respiratory, Sleep and Neurosciences team members either directly or through the Resource Technologist.
d.

Ensures staff maintains adherence to HIPAA guidelines and patient privacy policies.

Ensures readiness for Joint Commission surveys.

Experience Minimum Required

• Min of 2 years of management experience in Respiratory Care.

Clinical experience with neonatal, pediatric and adult respiratory care
Experience Preferred/Desired

• 4 years of Respiratory Care management
Education Minimum Required

• Associates degree in Respiratory Care
Education Preferred/Desired

• Bachelors degree in a healthcare related area
Training Minimum Required
