Group Manager, Materials Science Scientific Operations Team

OverviewWaters Materials Science Organization provides globally-recognized scientific leadership in the area of specialty measurement in the chemicals and materials sciences. We use that understanding to direct the development of innovative products and solutions to be workflow based, enabling our customers to solve critical analytical challenges and advance scientific understanding. The Manager of Materials Science Scientific Operations is responsible for leading a team of scientists across relevant scientific and market disciplines to maintain TA Instruments and Waters leadership in specialty measurement. This position is responsible for delivery of a prioritized portfolio of scientific projects that support new product development and commercialization, key marketing programs and sales initiatives, and applications research. Specifically, the role involves identifying new scientific trends and directions in the materials science and interacting with senior management to support new product development and business initiatives in these areas. Working closely with the marketing and technology organizations, the Manager of Materials Science Scientific Operations will assist in the development of the strategic direction for the company’s current and future opportunities.Typical tasks of the position include, but are not limited to* Manage a team of application scientists focused on quantitative and qualitative work flows, namely materials applications and characterization* Responsible for reviewing all collateral produced for the above application areas for marketing purposes* Design and execute a structure/properties science plan to bring the TA and Waters technology sets closer together.* Interpret scientific knowledge base related to literature/industry to drive corporate strategy in the areas of materials analysis using Thermal analysis, Rheology, Mechanical Characterization. HPLC, GPC and LC-MS* Works with technology development organization to ensure proper robustness and benchmarking is done throughout product development* Management of resources, budget, and deadlines related to projects* Establish and manage networks/collaborations with key scientific opinion leaders* Identify/develop organizational needs and staff to ensure efficient operation of business* Apply deep understanding of industry landscape to support business and drive revenue growthThe successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience that would include the followingEssential Skills and Capabilities:* Resolve complex/diverse problems related to operational/technical aspects of business development* Capable of working across management layers and functional boundaries in matrixed organization* Ability to formulate/manage long-term scientific/operational strategy to enhance product portfolio* Plan and align scientific plans with those of new product development, sales, and marketing* Ensure accountability of all team members to establish and meet deadlines* Interpret customer needs based on entire work flows into differentiated applications to drive business goals* Exhibit strong prioritization and decision making skills* Passion for developing organization talentQualifications:* Knowledge of key work flows in chemicals and materials characterization* 5-10 years or more of technical experience post grad degree desired* Experience leading a team of scientists* Advanced multidisciplinary knowledge across scientific fieldCompetencies:* You will have good leadership skills, dependable judgement, pleasant attitude and be attentive to details;* You will have well-equipped interpersonal skills, including coaching, presentation, listening and negotiating as well as networking and influencing;* You will have adequate organising, planning and analytical skills;* You are able to work with multiple deadlines and deliver results;* You will have ability to provide support to other functions of the organisation as a business partner;* Proficient English Language Skills;Travel:* A valid passport will be required;* This is a crossed location position with occasional travels to other territories/countries for activities such as proffesional and departmental meetings and training.Company DescriptionWaters Corporation (NYSE: WAT), the world’s leading specialty measurement company, has pioneered chromatography, mass spectrometry and thermal analysis innovations serving the life, materials, and food sciences for more than 60 years.
