Internal Auditor

Heritage Credit Union

This is a Contract position in Forest, DE posted May 6, 2021.

This position is not remote!


Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM (8 hour shift)

Role Summary:

This position will perform operational, regulatory and compliance audits for the credit union. They will also review records, documents, loans, and operational processes to ensure compliance with all related laws, regulations, and policies/procedures of the credit union.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts regular audits for all credit union branches/departments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, credit union policies and operational procedures
  • Reviews member/employee accounts, loan files, generated reports
  • Goes on branch visits, when assigned
  • Stays current with regulatory knowledge and makes appropriate changes to the audit function in order to maintain compliance
  • Assesses internal controls to be in place and effective through use of testing
  • Prepares written reports on internal audit reviews, including: Findings, analyses, conclusions, and recommended actions
  • Assists in developing the annual audit program, coordinating compliance audits with the Compliance Specialist
  • Conducts internal investigations of employees, when necessary, using the utmost confidentiality

Ideal Candidate:

  • 2-5 years of similar or related experience within the financial institution industry
  • Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Possesses a significant level of trust, credibility, patience, and diplomacy
  • Familiar with Symitar, Action, and Express Accounts (XA)


  • A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school, or equivalent work experience
  • Internal auditing experience
  • Experience working with confidential information regarding customers and vendors
  • Experience motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance

This position will report to Michael Harty, Chief Risk Management Officer.

This team consists of the following team members:

  • 2 Auditors
  • 1 Auditor (Employee Account Emphasis)
  • 1 Compliance Specialist
  • 1 BSA Officer
